Pride of the nation DR.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam
DR.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam was born on 15th October, 1931 at Dhanushkodi in Rameswaram. His full name is Abul Pakir Jainulabaddin Abdul Kalam. Since his childhood Dr. Kalam was brilliant and wise. His father Jainulabaddin was neither highly literate nor rich, he was a boatman. His mother Ashiamma was a home maker who played a major role in bringing up his character. He lived a very simple life in spite of being an honourable personally.
Basically Dr. Kalam was a proud Indian interested in Philosophy, Spiritualism and Hard Work. In spite of holding the highest post of the country he was not conscious of the high rank, he used to meet the small boys and youths with great love and simplicity which were unique. He looked for the future of India in them.
Dr.Kalam was very interested in learning. But in those days professional education was not common and easy. He completed his schooling in Swartz High School . Get completed his B.Sc. degree in St. Joseph college, Trichy. He pursued his aerospace engineering in Madras Institute of Technology (M.I.T). He saw science with the eye of spirituality. He often repeated the words of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Prof Sarabhai and said that “If the people of India want to play an important role in the world, they must adopt a new technique to make progress. “
We all have heard the proverb ‘Failure is the stepping stone to Success ‘,Dr.Kalam ‘s life is a perfect example to this proverb. After facing uncountable number of failures in his life he bloomed into an awesome personality only because of his untiring effort.
Dr. Kalam was an atomic scientist who is called the ‘Father of Atom Bomb’ in India after the Pokhran atomic explosion. He won many awards for his contributions to science. Dr. Kalam who has dreamt of India as a strong nation after taking up the charge of the president of India. He thought that dreams would be converted into thoughts and those thoughts came to us as our workshop and goals.
The aim of Dr. Kalam was to build a strong India. He had fixed a mission for which the time limit is 2020. He was aware of his responsibilities. He was a winner because he always concentrated on his potent strengths and worked on his weaknesses. He said
“ It is easy to defeat someone
But ,it is very hard to win someone.”
In his point of view youths should be aware of their responsibilities to develop our nation as a super power by 2020. He received uncountable number of awards for his contribution and dedication. He received Padma Bhushan in 1981,Padma vibhushan in 1990 ,Bharat Ratna in 1997,National Nehru Award and Gandhi Award of National Integration, etc.
Books written by Dr. Kalam kindled several minds and influenced many people. Some of his popular books are India 2020,Wings of Fire, Ignited Minds,Mission India, Envisioning on Empowered Nation, Forge your Future and Target 3 Billion.
While delivering his lecture at the Indian Institute of Management Shilling on ‘The Livable Planet Earth’ he was fainted due to massive cardiac arrest at his 83rd age on 23rd July 2015. But he will live in the hearts of millions of people forever. Once he said that “Don’t declare holiday on my death, instead work an extra day,if you love me.” To obey his words Government of India announced that there will be a seven day state mourning for the tribute of Dr. A.P.J.Abdul Kalam but there will be no holiday.
Dr. Kalam ‘s life is the source of inspiration for the coming generation to show that a man does not become great by the chair he holds ,but by his noble nature. Let’s take a pledge to fulfill all his dreams that he had for our nation and youth.
